Your very own KCSB emerged during the 1961-62 school year.
To commemorate the birth of the UC’s first radio station, we will be presenting a series of celebratory events throughout the coming academic year, culminating with a major KCSB radio-alumni get-together during UCSB Alumni Association’s 6th Annual All Gaucho Reunion, which is scheduled for the weekend of April 27th-29th, 2012.
Mark your calendars, and stay tuned to keep informed on all the ways KCSB will be marking this milestone anniversary!
Alumni Testimonials

“My college career and my life today would be 100 percent different if I had not met Danny MacLeith and gotten involved with KCSB. I met so many friends, had so many wonderful opportunities, built a resume with experience that I still list today and grew as a person.”
Anna Oleson-Wheeler 2003-2007
KCSB Sports Director 2005-2006
“Had a great time doing both a music show and working in the sports department. I was able to actually work on things that I was passionate about and help others who shared the same passion.”
Nick Pavlatos 1992-1995
Training Director 1994-1995
“Working on a remote broadcast in Isla Vista during riots, on a 2nd floor patio outside a (closed) insurance agency. A sheriff ran up and pointed a shotgun at us and ordered us inside. We showed press badges and explained the door was locked but he kept screaming. Luckily the insurance agent, worried about his office, showed up and let us in. Phew!”
Ann McCreery 1968-1971

I was there majoring in English /Music minor as a student during the riots when Marshall Law was declared in the ’70′s and the student body president was killed by a bullet which defined the conflict: The bullet shot straight up in the air, by a volunteer policeman from LA ricochetted off a rock thrown by one of the protesting students who – being “directed” and egged-on by a non student (“Lefty)(formerly from the poorer section of town) who, overnite, had started driving around in a brand new car: “Get those lites out!” he shouted at the rock throwing students who had lit a fire on the steps of the Bank of America. The student body president had been working with a pastor to try to put out the fire;
Few of us had any doubts he was being paid by the republicans later involved in water gate. we were mostly pacifists (I’m a singer songwriter and prefer to express my vocalizations through an ever expanding repertoire of original music in a style I nik-named “B.A.RoQue” By the 1990′s Clinton had (despite trying to fulfill our motto (make love not war) balenced
the budgets and put us in the black. Bush’s party soon turned that around and the Repub’s are STILL trying to blame every bad thing on the democrats. Its painfull for me to write/type this:Call me at 209-532-5504 if you care to hear some more of my vague recollections, or if you would like to receive a CD of my newest music (like “Reconciling Darwin with God” containing the line “Evolution spelled backwards, is “No-It-U-Love”
…I’m still composing music and trying to get a publishing contract for my music and my private cartoon series (“The Go-O.D. News Gazette” one of which was the first & last of my cartoons published in the Nexus between 1973&75. I’m thinking The kingdom of heaven within us will be achieved by the use of GOOD MEDICINE…the blinded bigotted establishment would rather make sure everyone (especially the poor in the middle east) are totally miserable by burning their ONLY source for sanity (yes, narcotic pain relief). Why do so many think torture will help solve ANYTHING???
I have a new vision to build Comunity wash/swim& get fit Concert Hall Tropical Garden power-plant stadiums all over California that “grow” their own clean energy, I have the sketches but known nothing about engineering. I’bve been cut off from my fellow students for over 30 years now, and can’t seem to find the strength to return. Enjoy paradice and help it spread throughout the world.
