The UCSB women’s basketball team lost an absolute nail biter in their first clash against UCSD this season. In fact, last Thursday’s game was the first Big West matchup ever between the two teams.

Freshman forward, Taylor Mole, led the Gauchos with 22 points while playing all 40 minutes. Tyla Turner, a guard for the Tritons paced her team in scoring with an efficient 24 points with 50% coming from the field. The game was close the entire time, neither team ever was leading by more than eight points.

Thanks to a strong end to the first half, UCSD was up eight going into the break. They kept a similar lead for most of the third quarter, but the end of the third was when the Gauchos came roaring back to take a 56-53 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was good back and forth play, then, with 22 seconds and score knotted up at 71-71, UCSD took a timeout. With five seconds left, Turner nails a game-winning jumper to seal the win. The Gauchos fall to 2-7 on the season and 2-3 in the Big West.
