Zine Committee Meetings Thursdays 5-6pm in the KCSB Newsroom
In a world of increasing deception: due to rising AI content, censorship in the media, and a governmental lack of transparency, the motif of masquerade is on our minds at KCSB. Ornate masks, carnivals, raucous theatre, tented circuses, and optical illusions represent the wild, carnival-like state of the world politically and technologically, the facades people put on on social media, and the increasing tension between identity, dreams, and the subconscious and the pressures of the external world. This zine, we hope, will help provoke thought about what lies beneath the various masks we are confronted with (or perhaps create ourselves) in our current world, representing tangible authenticity and giving us a strategy for preserving and identifying authentic media and the authentic self.
1. Submissions are open to all.
2. All applications will be blind reviewed by a committee to eliminate bias.
3. Consider KCSB-FM’s mission of being non-commercial, independent, and educational (https://www.kcsb.org/about/).
4. We do not require pieces to be made new or exclusive for the zine (ie. you can send in previous work), though this will be considered in the reviewing process.
5. ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE ORIGINAL WORKS.
6. You can make multiple submissions!!!
7. As a KCSB zine, we encourage you to consider framing or relating your submissions to the subject of radio, or independent media as a whole. Non-commercial radio is a vitally important resource in times like these and we’d like this zine to represent all that it has to offer. Some ideas include: historical pieces chronicling music/radio/local history, artist or album reviews, local news, local band interviews, opinions on state of media, submissions related to physical media (cd/cassette/vinyl collecting or production, etc.)
