AS Senate Recap – 11/29/2025

The AS Senate is a group of elected student representatives which serves as the policy-making body of Associated Students. Every Wednesday at 6:30 PM, the AS Senate convenes to pass bills and resolutions, hear reports from Boards, Committees, and Units (BCUs), and hold public forum.

KCSB‘s Tatiana Jacquez brings you a recap of the latest updates from their email vote on November 29th, 2025.

Thanksgiving Break Vote: On November 28th, Internal Vice President Enri Lala sent out an email regarding two time-sensitive, crucial motions for the Senate. The first one motion was to approve the AS Executive Director Job Description drafted by the Search Committee, and the other was to request from the Judicial Council regarding Senators’ attendance for meetings.

Motion to approve the ASUCSB Executive Director Job Description drafted by the Search Committee (Wahidullah – Luken): In the search for an Associated Students Executive Director under Student Services, the AS Senate voted on a Job Description draft for the position from the Search Committee. The Executive Director is the department head for AS, overseeing staff and observes personnel workplace practices. Additionally, the AS Executive Director serves as chief fiscal officer of AS, conducting final oversight of AS funds, leading AS agenda while collaborating with staff and student leadership and oversee elections, amongst other tasks. The final vote tallied to 17 in favor, 1 opposition, and 1 abstention. The job search for an Executive Director will continue with the amended job description.

Motion to request an Advisory Opinion from the Judicial Council on the constitutionality of Standing Policy 10 provisions (Ly-Manakova): Following inquiries regarding the consequences of repeated absences from AS Senate meetings by senators, the Senate voted to seek clarity from the Judicial Council on Standing Policy 10’s role in executing Article XI §4. This article states that a senator may be removed in a special “Recall Election” following approval from the Legislative Council, and would allow the student body to vote on the matter. The request by senators would clarify questions regarding constitutional limits and the role of Senate authority to regulate its members on attendance. The final vote tallied to 15 in favor, 2 in opposition, and 1 abstention.
