After making a Nor Cal road trip last weekend, the Gauchos came away with two Big West wins. UCSB is not finished yet, though, as their next two games will bring them to So Cal where they will be playing CSUN and Cal State Fullerton. Tonight’s match up features the Matadors as they try to win two consecutive games for the first time since December. The Gauchos are still trying to keep pace with the undefeated Long Beach State 49ers, so a win tonight in Northridge is crucial.

Joe Broder will have the call live from the Matadome. The pregame show starts at 6:45pm, and tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.

Philip LeVasseur invites Documentary Filmmakers in the Santa Barbara International Film Festival to discuss their work.

DIRTY ENERGY

On April 20th, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded taking the lives of 11 workers and sank as millions of barrels of oil poured into the ocean, creating one of the worst environmental disasters in history. Dirty Energy is the story of the human and environmental costs of the BP Oil Spill told through those directly affected by the tragic events. Director Bryan Douglas Hopkins is an independent Filmmaker based in Detroit, MI. His feature directorial debut, Dirty Energy, highlights Bryan’s passion for raw and honest storytelling. Although a narrative filmmaker at heart, Bryan embarked on a documentary out what he perceived was a void in the media coverage of the struggles of those affectedby the BP Oil Spill without the mainstream filters.

HEIST: WHO STOLE THE AMERICAN DREAM?

Heist: Who Stole the American Dream? reveals how American corporations orchestrated the dismantling of middle-class prosperity through rampant deregulation, the outsourcing of jobs, and tax policies favoring businesses and the wealthy. The collapse of the U.S. economy is the result of conscious choices made over thirty five years by a small group: leaders of corporations and their elected allies, and the biggest lobbying interest in Washington, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Heist can serve as a sober warning about what is happening to our country, and provide some ideas of how to restore fairness and community, while reigning in the power of corporations. The underlying idea of Heist is that knowledge is power, and that social change comes from the bottom up. Donald Goldmacher, Director/Producer, “My motivation in making this film is to give people a picture of how they can fight back, and not allow themselves to be bullied and pushed around by big corporations.”

“Art of Peace” airs on Wednesdays in the winter from 630-730pm.

KCSB is a media supporter of the Fund for Santa Barbara’s Social Justice Award for Documentary Film 2012, part of the the 27th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The festival runs from Thursday, January 26th through Sunday, February 5th.
