This week Professor of English at UC Santa Barbara, Patricia Fumerton, Ph.D. will join Pav & Tim in the studio to discuss her work as the Director of Early Modern Center’s English Broadside Ballads Archive (EBBA).

EBBA’s goal is to make such broadside ballads fully accessible as texts, art, music, and cultural records of the period. About 8,000-10,000 English broadside ballads of the entire seventeenth-century survive. To capture the genre’s arch of development, EBBA seeks to archive all these printed ballads—with priority given to the black-letter ornamental broadside of the genre’s heyday—as well as all surviving sixteenth-century broadside ballads (about 250) and a representative sampling of broadside ballads of the early eighteenth century.

Dr. Fumerton was the recipient of the 2009 BSECS Digital Eighteenth Century Prize, awarded by the British Society for Eighteenth Century Studies in collaboration with JISC Collections, Gale Cengage Learning, Adam Matthews Digital, and Proquest.

We welcome and encourage ANYONE to participate.

The winner will be awarded a cash prize of $150 for their design. (The 2009 contest winner is pictured here.) A vote of KCSB programmers at our fall staff meeting determines the top t-shirt design. Starting this year KCSB will also feature many of the design submissions that did not make the final cut but still distinguish KCSB.

Original art must be between 8 1/2” x 11” and 11” x 17”. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or tiff files are preferred (300 dpi). Submissions must include “KCSB 91.9 FM,” “www.kcsb.org” and imagery that represents the entirety of community radio. Try to encompass KCSB as a whole, not just specific genres. There is a three-color limit.

Email submissions to general.manager@kcsb.org, or bring your artwork to KCSB’s main office beneath Storke Tower (room 1055) by our 5pm deadline on October 11th. Please contact KCSB at (805) 893-3757 or email info@kcsb.org with any questions.
