Hello Cathy Nurillo,
I'm listening to your report now at 4:45pm. Can you provide any information on exact areas where the fire destroyed homes? What streets and neighborhoods? And, you mentioned that Las Canoas Rd marks the western edge of the fire front. That's a long and tortuous road. Is there any more specific information on where exactly the fire front is? You mentioned that they are dealing with the fire on Mission ridge. Does that mean Mission Ridge Rd? That I thought already burned.
Thanks for your very helpful coverage, again.
Love you!
Mark

My understanding is that CrisisWire is an unofficial map. That isn’t to say the map doesn’t provide some information, but I don’t believe it is the “official” evacuation map for the fire nor is it the official map of the fire itself.

According to the Crisiswire, the evacuation warning is (as of this posting on Nov. 13 @ 11:52pm) has reached State and Alamar. I live in that neighborhood, and we’ve heard nothing about being under a evac warning. The map also indicates that the fire has crossed APS, but, as I type this, a county fire official has stated the fire has NOT crossed APS.

Again, while it might helpful in determining some aspects of the fire, I think people should NOT take it as the official word.

The best place for information on the fire that I can find is http://crisiswire.com. They have maps, a Twitter feed, mainstream media and a bunch of other information.

Stay safe everyone!!

Not to disappoint you, Amanda, but the model is from Earth Positive's web site. There's a reason most of us at KCSB work in radio and not television. :)

As a previous previous neighbor of Edward (Kyle) Van Tassel I know that he is a victim with post traumatic stress disorder (PSTD), whether he admits it or not. He deserves the mental health services owed to him for serving his country in Iraq. We should all be disturbed for him and the other Iraqi Vets like him, no matter where your political affiliations lie. We need to support our troops, whether or not we support this war. This is not a partisan issue, but a humanitarian one.

When the troops finally come home, they are going to need very special care from professionals with expertise in treating PTSD... only available at VA institutions and most certainly not available in Santa Barbara. With the worst economy since the Great Depression, I am afraid that there will not be enough mental health services available to the help the returning Iraqi Vets suffering as Kyle is suffering. Kyle says doesn't have PTSD, but his anti-war protest one week ago displayed very poor decision making ability and probable PTSD.

The help Kyle needs for his PTSD is not available in Santa Barbara County. It is not available in his grandmother's home. We do not have a VA Hospital here in town. That is where the people who specialize in PTSD are located. Living at home with his mother and grandmother is not the answer. No matter how kind and loving an environment this would seem to be, his family was not able to prevent this very dangerous incident from occurring. Nor would they be able to prevent future incidents of this sort.

Kyle needs to go to a place where can get he help he is owed for serving his country in the Iraq war. He does not deserve to go to jail. It is a shame he can not get this help in Santa Barbara, near his family and friends, but that is reality. We will probably never have a VA hospital in this town.

We all need to support Kyle and all of the returning Iraqi veterans. I think this is something that we can all agree upon. One can hate the war, but support the veterans of this horrible war. Let us hope for the best for out returning Veterans... especially today on a day in like today when we commemorate the Veterans of our country.
