Well, there are all kinds of ways to think about Independence Day, so we decided to consider what it means to be independent of gainful employment. It’s not too surprising that musicians seem to know a lot about what it means not to have a job, given the way we tend to respect the labor of all artists. But it is somewhat surprising not all the songs make you feel sad and miserable, starting with The Silhouettes’ “Get a Job” in the first place. So tune in and discover all the ways one can musically consider what it means to be without work, from a mash-up of Bruce Hornsby and Tupac Shakur to a Robert Wyatt/Elvis Costello collaboration with some Martin Newell and Maximum Danger Project in-between.
“Frank ‘n’ George” airs 10 am – 12 noon this summer.
