Of his next broadcast, host Dick Flacks writes:
leftwing songs for d-day
This week marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy Invasion. To commemorate, we feature songs by leftwing artists who helped define World War II as a progressive struggle against fascism and racism abroad—and also in the US.
Woody Guthrie did a lot to promote the war effort—as did Pete Seeger and the Almanacs, Paul Robeson and Josh White. We’ll sample what they sang. And we’ll conclude with a musical remembrance of June 4 and the 25th anniversary of the struggle in Tienanmen square.
