Later this week, author/filmmaker/critic Matt Zoller Seitz will make two appearances in the Santa Barbara area to discuss his recently-published book, The Wes Anderson Collection (Abrams Books, 2013): on Friday, February 21st, 830pm at the Isla Vista Theater, and Saturday, February 22nd, 7pm at the Central Library’s Faulkner Gallery. KCSB-FM is a co-sponsor of these special engagements.
Today’s broadcast of “The Freak Power Ticket” will honor the subject of Matt Zoller Seitz’s comprehensive work, writer/director Wes Anderson.
Anderson emerged in the late-1990s with a comedy-caper called Bottle Rocket, which was co-written by and stars fellow University of Texas at Austin grad Owen Wilson. Luke Wilson and James Caan round at its cast. This morning, we’ll share a mix of sounds from the original soundtrack of Bottle Rocket and also from Anderson’s breakthrough film, Rushmore, the 1998 coming-of-age comedy that stars Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Olivia Williams: featuring trailers, audio samples, covers, original source material, and commentary.
Call it something of an “alternative soundtrack” to the two cult-classic motion pictures.
Co-sponsored by Granada Books, Magic Lantern Films, and Friends of the Santa Barbara Public Library, Matt Zoller Seitz’s illustrated lectures are free and open to the public.
“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays in the fall from 11am-12noon.
