BERNARD HERRMANN & the Music of ALFRED HITCHCOCK on Monday’s “The Freak Power Ticket” (August 12): With Guest Expert Chris Husted

Ted Coe, producer/host of the music-and-cultural-arts program “The Freak Power Ticket” writes: “It’s been fascinating to observe a resurgence of interest in Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock.

From two recent studio docudramas — Sacha Gervasi‘s Hitchcock (produced by Santa Barbara’s own Tom Pollock & the Montecito Picture Company) and HBO’s The Girl — to this summer’s UCSB Arts & Lectures’ free movie series, ALFRED HITCHCOCK NIGHTSHitch is clearly on the minds of more Santa Barbarans than he has been in quite some time.

On the Monday, August 12th edition of my program, we’ll seize upon this heightened attention to examine Hitchcock from an angle totally different than my first go-round this summer (with UCSB Film Professor Alan Langdale – click HERE for that podcast).

My guest today will be Christopher Husted, an accomplished Bernard Herrmann expert.

Our conversation will discuss this giant of a film composer, whose eclectic scores included: Citizen Kane (1941); The Day to Earth Stood Still (1951); Vertigo (1958); North By Northwest (1959); Psycho (1960); Cape Fear (1962); and Taxi Driver (1976), among many others.

We’ll hear original Herrmann music, an excerpt from his early radio work, covers, remixes, sonic tributes, and film trailers.

We’ll also preview this week’s UCSB A&L presentation, The Birds (1963), which included an experimental electronically-created soundtrack that featured Herrmann as a consultant. Along with some highly engaging conversation, we will also share selections by other composers associated with cinema’s ‘Master of Suspense.’

You’ll be thrilled at the breadth and depth of the impact of all our featured artists and their various works!”

“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays from 10am-12noon in the summer.
