Songs for Swingin’ Sellers: A Two-Hour Tribute to PETER SELLERS on Monday’s Special THE FREAK POWER TICKET (June 17)

Subbing for “Frank ‘n’ George,” Monday’s two-hour special edition of “The Freak Power Ticket” is the music-and-cultural-arts program’s second installment spotlighting the genius of actor/comedian Peter Sellers.

Producer/host Ted Coe writes: “We pick things up after his star turn in Stanley Kubrick‘s Cold War classic, Dr. Strangelove.

This week’s show begins with Sellers’ standout work in the midst of the Swinging 1960s, when he took the reins of director Blake Edwards‘ Pink Panther series, wrecked havoc in the slapstick farce The Party (also by Edwards), and synched up with the more psychedelic side of Mad Mod London (including The Beatles), in an adaptation of the satirical novel, The Magic Christian.

In the end, we’ll hear film trailers, much music from nearly two decades of Sellers’ movies, novelty songs, audio samples, remixes, and commentary.

In assessing the man’s enduring impact, one need only consider his influence on the former Saturday Night Live comic Mike Meyers, whose iconic character Austin Powers was largely inspired by Peter Sellers’ bumbling Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau, as well as his character Evelyn Tremble in the James Bond spoof Casino Royale (1967).

The journey concludes with his Oscar-nominated swan song, in Hal Ashby‘s black comedy Being There (1979), as Chauncey Gardiner, the developmentally-disabled savant who somehow makes a splash ‘Inside the Beltway’ of US politics.

It’ll be a Summer Solstice Sellers-bration from 10am-12noon on June 17th!”
