Ghost Tiger, an indie-rock quintet from Santa Barbara, CA, have re-emerged after a brief hiatus in 2012 with a number of club dates and, this week, a hometown record-release party at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club.On Thursday, June 6th, to celebrate their debut studio recording, BirdFeeder, on 7″ vinyl, the group has joined forces with Cool Summer Presents to assemble an impressive lineup of area talent for a night of all-ages music, including the LA band Torches, indie surf-pop quartet Dante Elephante, and lo-fi quartet Islay Street.
Ghost Tiger brings together a contemporary indie-rock sound that is also influenced by ’60s girl-group and folk-rock harmonies, classical composition, and non-western rhythmic influences. Frontwoman Alixandra Macmillan-Fiedel‘s soulful lead vocals are complimented by bassist Kevin Evans, guitarist Christopher Norlinger, keyboardist Emma Huston, and drummer Chris Stansell, who emerged as a group in 2011.
The new 7″ record features two songs, the energetic “Birdfeeder” and the lush and dreamy B-side “Madeline.” More info about the band can be found on their official website, while a music video for “Birdfeeder” debuts online on the blog thewildhoneypie.com.
Macmillan-Fiedel, Evans, Huston, and Norlinger will return to the KCSB studios this Monday, June 3rd, from 11am-12noon, to appear on “The Freak Power Ticket” with host Ted Coe. They will share Ghost Tiger tracks along with musical selections by this week’s supporting acts, and converse about their origins and experiences in Santa Barbara’s music scene.
SOhO is at 1221 State Street, #205. Showtime is 8pm.
“The Freak Power Ticket” airs weekly on Mondays in the Spring from 11am-12noon.
