Brad Fiedel, the Santa Barbara composer best known for his futuristic score for James Cameron’s 1984 sci-fi sensation, The Terminator, will be a special guest this Monday morning on “The Freak Power Ticket” (April 22, 11am-12noon).

Ahead of the upcoming premiere of his one-man show, Borrowed Time (Thurs.-Fri., April 25-26), a benefit for the Center Stage Theater’s Renter Scholarship Fund, Fiedel will join host Ted Coe for an hour that includes both his film work and original songs from the autobiographical musical.

With roots in a bohemian New York art school run by his parents, Fiedel came of age during the insurgent 1960s. Interweaving songs written over several decades, Borrowed Time tells the story of Fiedel’s journey from radical young idealist to successful film composer, and of an eventual need to free himself from the Hollywood machine.

Notwithstanding Fiedel’s association with modern industry stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jodie Foster, Keanu Reeves, and Bruce Willis, cinephiles might also be struck by the roster of acclaimed directors he has collaborated with, including Daniel Mann, Steven Spielberg, Sir Michael Apted, Kathryn Bigelow, and James Cameron.

Furthermore, genre-film fans should perk up over his other synth-heavy compositions for such eighties cult faves as Jeff Lieberman’s slasher film, Just Before Dawn (1981), Tom Holland’s vampire hit Fright Night (1985), and Wes Craven’s voodoo-horror movie, The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988).

Expect an hour of standout and heartfelt music plus conversation about an engaging range of topics.
