Of his next broadcast, host Dick Flacks writes, ”This week marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Harriet Tubman, known as the Moses of the slaves because of her leadership in creating the Underground Railroad and her success in freeing at least 1000 slaves. And it is also the week that marks International Women’s Day–an observance that got its start in the US labor movement and was picked up by international socialist movement in 1909. We’ll feature a number of songs about Harriet Tubman and songs that honor and  reflect the labor movement origins of international women’s day. And a song for Hugo Chavez.

..and thanks to the many who donated to KCSB and Culture of Protest by email and phone pledges! It was a record breaking year!”

“Culture of Protest” airs on Thursdays in the winter from 6-7pm.
