Poolside is an electronic rock group based in Los Angeles, California. Evoking the Southern California aesthetics of Pop artists like David Hockney in their promotional graphics, the core duo behind the group, Filip Nikolic and Jeffrey Paradise, appropriately enough create a laid-back yet danceable sound. On their 2012 independent album Pacific Standard Time (Day & Night Records) and other releases, Poolside produces a unique brand of funky electro-pop, melding retro synths with contemporary sensibilities in a fusion best described as “daytime disco.” Santa Barbara locals Dante Elephante will open the night; the quartet has an edgy surf-rock vibe, with influences ranging from Dr. Dog to The Pixies.

KCSB student General Manager Michael Kenney says, “this event reflects our mission of exposing the local community to emerging artists who are often ignored by commercial radio and other media outlets.” Something of a kickoff for KCSB’s annual on-air Fund Drive 2013: “KCSB You Rock My World” (February 20-March 1), the concert is also an opportunity for the station to thank UCSB students for ongoing support of its operations since 1961. Also, as a radio station dedicated to supporting the area’s independent music scene, talented locals Dante Elephante nicely fill the role of opening act. Kenney adds, “KCSB-FM is funded primarily by self-assessed student lock-in fees, so with this event we gratefully celebrate the support of UCSB undergraduates, as well as that of the larger community.”
