The January 7th broadcast wove together an interview and guest-DJ set with “Retro Euro Cult” expert John Bender, a writer for Film Score Monthly and Video Watchdog magazine. For a sampling of that show’s playlist, see below.
The next edition of “The Freak Power Ticket” (Monday, January 14th, 11am-12noon) will continue the show’s entertaining tribute to Star Trek fan culture and to Bill Shatner more specifically.
An hour-long salute will feature music from the TV program and its spinoff films; musical recordings by Shatner (“Captain Kirk”), Leonard Nimoy (“Mr. Spock”), and Nichelle Nichols (“Lt. Uhura”); Shatner-related movie and TV trailers and other audio snippets; plus comedy bits and novelty songs about Star Trek and its iconic Captain from rock bands that dress in Trek-inspired costumes and sing oddball Trekkie lyrics.
The show’s uniquely-informed commentary will round out the proceedings. “The Freak Power Ticket”‘s host Ted Coe hopes to inspire a new appreciation for the international phenomenon that is Star Trek – and one of Canada’s greatest exports, Mr. William Shatner.
