Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Michael Young Interviewed on “Real Gauchos” (Tuesday, March 20)

This week on “Real Gauchos,” Paul Rivas interviews UCSB Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Michael Young on growing up a regular midwesterner, being groomed by his ruthless mother to pursue higher education, going to college a negro and coming out black, registering black voters in the Mississippi Delta at age 19, his litany of university jobs, why being relentless is better than being smart, the true meaning of ‘career’ for new graduates, and why he hasn’t retired.

This conversation was recorded live at the winter 2012 finale of Education 118, “The Research University and the Transfer Student Experience,” in which Dr. Don Lubach, a teaching team, and 200 transfer students in their first year at UCSB critically examine what it means to be a transfer student.

New episodes of “Real Gauchos” air Tuesdays at 7pm. All past episodes are available on realgauchos.com.
