Of his next broadcast (Thursday, March 1st), “Culture of Protest” host Professor Dick Flacks writes, “We’ll do one more program this week relating to Black History Month. The focus: a number of performers in recent years have made projects reviving and restoring the music of the civil rights movement years. These include Mavis Staples, John Legend, Chuck D, The Roots. Somehow decades later the songs still provide material for the freedom struggle soundtrack. So we’ll listen to a collection of these efforts, layering history and inspiration for what’s next.”
Culture of Protest airs on Thursdays in the winter from 6-7pm.
