No Alibis 8am 2/22/12: Prison hunger strike;Manthia Diawara on African film, Edouard Glissant

In protest against the cruel and unusual punishment meted out in California prisons, prisoners are again on a hunger strike and one prisoner at Corcoran State Prison, Christian Gomez, has died. Jay Donahue of CA Prisoner Hunger Strike Solidarity joins Avery Gordon and Elizabeth Robinson at 8:30 to report on current actions inside and out of the prisons. At 9:15, NYU professor and documentarian, Mathian Diawara will discuss his latest film about Martinican poet and philosopher Edouard Glissant. Diawara has also written extensively on African film, including the work of Ousman Sembene. Sembene’s last film ‘Moolaadé is being shown by KCSB on Thursday night at Embarcadero Theater.
