Los Angeles Retro-Revivalists THE ALLAH-LAS Join “The Freak Power Ticket” for an Interview & DJ Set MONDAY (February 13)

Spencer Dunham, Pedrum Siadatian, Miles Michaud of The Allah-Las

Touted in the LA Weekly as one of “Five Local Bands Who Will Be Huge In 2012″ (12/27/2011), rock revivalists The Allah-Las met while working at Hollywood’s record-lovers mecca, Amoeba Music.

This Monday, February 13th, from 11am-12noon, bassist Spencer Dunham, lead guitarist Pedrum Siadatian, singer-guitarist Miles Michaud and singer-drummer Matt Correia will share personal stories and their passion for classic vinyl gems, underground garage, and other free-spirited music on the music-and-cultural arts audiozine, “The Freak Power Ticket.”

These former KXLU-FM programmers, in a return to the broadcast airwaves, will mix in selections of their own work during their guest DJ set and interview with host Ted Coe.

Musician and Pres Records Co. owner Nick Waterhouse — a fellow analog artisan — describes his indie label’s kindred, The Allah-Las, with a paraphrase of music critic Greil Marcus’ “Old Weird America.”

The ALLAH-LAS sound like the Old Weird Los Angeles: Strains of true surfing music, American harmonies, Sunset Strip backbeat, desert ramble filtered through Goldstar Sessioneers; That pre-fuzz pedal ‘electrified folk’ music and pop groups hitting that California sound with the tambourine on just the right beat.

The Allah-Las’ live Santa Barbara radio debut anticipates the quartet’s return to the stage at the SOhO Restaurant and Nightclub this coming Friday, February 17th, with Howlin’ Rain, from San Francisco, and SB locals Howlin’ Woods (showtime is 9pm).

“The Freak Power Ticket” airs from 11am-12noon every Monday throughout the winter months. This Monday, February 13th, stay tuned to KCSB-FM — both on the air at 91.9 FM and streaming live online — for the sound of Old Weird Los Angeles, and beyond, with The Allah-Las!
