Martin Scorsese: A Musical Journey on “The Freak Power Ticket” (Monday, January 30)

Sometimes it seems that film-festival tributes can be an exercise in self-congratulatory promotion and pandering to Hollywood’s celebrity obsession.

The bestowing of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival‘s “American Riviera Award” to the filmmaker Martin Scorsese (on Monday, January 30th, 2012, at the Arlington Theatre) is one exception to that view, however, as the filmmaker and current Oscar nominee for Best Director (for Hugo) has, after fifty years of filmmaking, become a creative giant in the industry and a true champion of the art of cinema.

During the Monday morning broadcast of “The Freak Power Ticket,” producer/host Ted Coe will present a aural journey exploring the first decade of this maestro’s career (with a few detours to illustrate Scorsese’s visionary influence).

The show’s setlist will include the work of such artists as: King Missile, The Chantels, The Genies, Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Flamin’ Groovies, Mott the Hoople, Bernard Herrmann, Paul Schrader, Alan Moore, Evidence, Jackson Browne, The Clash, Kris Kristofferson, Liza Minelli, and more; and a discussion of the movies The Big Shave, Who’s That Knocking At My Door, Boxcar Bertha, Woodstock, Mean Streets, Italian American, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver, and New York, New York.
