KCSB Supports “Rock Docs” Free Outdoor Film Festival: Every Monday Night at UCSB!

Every Monday night at 8pm, through early June, the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Music and KCSB 91.9 FM present Rock Docs, free outdoor screenings of documentary films about rock’n’roll and other contemporary music topics.

The series continues on Monday, April 25th with The Devil and Daniel Johnston, a glimpse into the life of outsider artist Daniel Johnston, a cult indie-folk musician from Texas.

May 2nd features Still Bill, a recent portrait of the working-class soul hero Bill Withers.

May 9th brings us Scratch, an exploration of the world of the hip-hop DJ.

On May 16th, there will be a screening of the hard-to-find movie, Vinyl, a look at compulsive vinyl record collecting.

Rip: A Remix Manifesto follows on May 23rd: a story of the energetic, innovative and potentially illegal world of mash-up media, which features musician Greg Gillis, aka “Girl Talk.”

The series concludes on June 6th with Madonna: Truth or Dare, which follows the Material Girl on her Blonde Ambition Tour of 1990.

Rock Docs screens outdoors at the Music Bowl, an intimate outdoor amphitheater within the Department of Music facility at the University of California, Santa Barbara campus. Just bring snacks, padding, added warmth, and a love of music to this free weekly festival, 8pm on Mondays at UCSB!

Previous films in the series have included the Bob Dylan classic Don’t Look Back; the Los Angeles punk documentary The Decline of Western Civilization; and a hard-rocking double-feature featuring Anvil: The Story of Anvil, with the short Heavy Metal Parking Lot.
