Musicians Jim Connolly & Rey Villalobos Play Separate Live Sets on “Freak Power Ticket” (Monday, March 21st) – Podcast Now Online!

Later today, Monday, March 21st, from 11-1130am, Ted Coe, host of “The Freak Power Ticket,” will be joined for a performance by (and conversation with) experimental Santa Barbara composer/musician Jim Connolly. Next, from 1130am-noon, local indie-rocker Rey Villalobos (House of Wolves and The Coral Sea) will follow Connolly behind the mic for more music and dialogue.

Connolly is known for his work fronting The Gove County Philharmonic and The Gove County String Quartet, and for composing music for Santa Barbara’s Lit Moon Theatre. Connolly plays the double bass, saw, banjo, piano, and sings, and will perform on banjo this morning, in anticipation of his musical adaptation, “The Zig Zag Railroad,” which premieres on Saturday, March 26th, at 8pm, at The Piano Kitchen (430 Rose Avenue) in Santa Barbara. Based on Carl Sandburg’s “Rootabaga Stories,” “The Zig Zag Railroad” is bolstered by Saturday evening’s complete lineup, which includes The Westmont College Chamber Singers, trumpeter Nate Birkey, The Gove County String Quartet, and singer Anna Abbey.

Villalobos stops by the KCSB studios next, ahead of House of Wolves‘ five-city California tour, including sets on Saturday at Muddy Waters Cafe (508 E. Haley St.) in Santa Barbara and Sunday, March 27th, at Zoey’s Cafe (185 E. Santa Clara St.) in Ventura. His House of Wolves debut album, “Fold In the Wind,” will be officially released during summer of 2011.

“The Freak Power Ticket” airs Mondays from 11am-noon during the winter.
