Earlier today (Monday, March 7th), as part of their “New American Dream Tour,” two native California bands, Musical Charis, and Blvd Park, made a stop at KCSB for an in-studio performance on “The Freak Power Ticket” that was both broadcast and streamed online.
Throughout the months of March and April, both bands will be playing original music in over 60 cities nationwide.
The seven-piece indie-pop group Musical Charis played live during the first half-hour of this late-morning music-and-cultural arts program, while also conversing with host Ted Coe about the band’s origins, music school, tour plans, and shared hometown of Sacramento, California. During the second part of this weekly show, tour mates Blvd Park (originally from Sacramento, now Seattle-based) switched places with Musical Charis for a similarly structured half-hour. Blvd Park creates a Spaghetti Western-inflected rootsy Americana sound.
Later tonight, The New American Dream Tour will be setting down at The Mercury Lounge in Old Town Goleta for a sort of vaudevillian musical revival-tent experience. Both KCSB-FM and The Mercury Lounge are presenting the evening performance.
Showtime for this 21-and-over concert is 8pm. The Mercury Lounge is at 5871 Hollister Avenue in Goleta. Tickets available at the door.
(Special thanks are in order to KCSB’s 2011 “Internal” Music Director, “Green Room” host, and all-around great guy, Eric Wolff, for helping to bring together a tricky sound mix! – TC)
