Physicist & Anthropology Prof. Gregory Cochran Talks Human Evolution on “The Marketplace of Ideas,” Thurs. at Noon

mailThis week on The Marketplace of Ideas, a conversation with physicist and University of Utah adjunct professor of anthropology Gregory Cochran, co-author with Henry Harpending of The 10,000-Year Explosion: How Civilization Accelerated Human Evolution. The book challenges the long-standing notion that human evolution suddenly came to a halt between 40,000 and 50,000 years ago, when cultural evolution is alleged to have “taken over” from the biological variety. Not only has human evolution not been stopped by modern changes in human lifestyle, Cochran and Harpending argue, it has actually accelerated to keep pace with the faster change in our environment.

The Marketplace of Ideas airs every Thursday at noon.
