From 10am until 2pm, this Independence Day, Friday, July 4th, KCSB 91.9 FM is co-sponsoring a Santa Barbara appearance by The Kids of Widney High, performing live in concert at La Casa de la Raza. This event is free and open to the public and includes a potluck meal (attendees are asked to bring their favorite July 4th foods to share).
From Los Angeles, California, the Kids of Widney High are a group of young adults with developmental disabilities who write, record, and produce their own unique brand of rock music. Compared to “outsider artists” Daniel Johnston and Wesley Willis, the Kids to date have released four albums (including their brand new “Live from the Key Club”); once played the L.A. leg of the Warped Tour; been covered by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Aquabats (among others); been featured in the Johnny Knoxville comedy, The Ringer; and worked closely with Mike Patton (of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame) and Jackson Browne.
The Kids of Widney High’s Santa Barbara date is one of their earliest on their first West Coast tour. At the event they will be showcasing their other multidisciplinary creative endeavors, from art films, to paintings, drawings, and photography, to poetry and other writings. This event will also feature DJofability Chris Benedict, and the local Santa Barbara band, All Is Fleeting.
This appearance is brought to you by a partnership of KCSB, the Independent Living Resource Center, Devereux, La Casa de la Raza, Chris Benedict, the Scimitar Cooperative, and a number of volunteers. La Casa de la Raza is at 601 E. Montecito Street (at Calle Cesar Chavez), in Santa Barbara, California, 93103.
