KCSB-FM will host a free concert stage at the Ventura Mini Park (the 300 block of E. Main Street between Palm and Oak) during the City of Ventura’s Spring ArtWalk Weekend 2008, on Saturday, April 26th, from 1-10pm, and Sunday, April 27th, from noon-4pm. The KCSB stage will feature 14 area music acts in genres ranging from funk to electronic, experimental to Brazilian jazz, African to classical, blues to California rock, mariachi to son jarocho. ArtWalk is a free self-guided arts tour at 60+ locations in Ventura’s Downtown Cultural District. The station is also hoping to entice a stop out of UCSB alumni traveling into the area for UCSB’s annual All-Gaucho Reunion Weekend (Thursday, April 24th-Sunday, April 27th).
Rebecca Redman, a UCSB student and KCSB intern on KCSB’s ArtWalk planning committee, says, “KCSB’s officers jumped at the chance to raise awareness in Ventura of our station as a unique resource for the entire region, while our ArtWalk committee set out to book local acts as diverse and lively as our on-air programs. There’s really nothing like KCSB in these parts.” Redman’s folk-pop duo, Watercolor Paintings, featuring brother Joshua (KCSB General Manager), will emcee (with other KCSB staffers) and play brief sets between some of the acts. KCSB’s ArtWalk lineup features the following (with tentative set times):
Saturday, April 26th
1-1:40pm: Téka (Brazilian jazz from Santa Barbara)
2-2:40pm: Mariachi Integral de UCSB (traditional mariachi from Santa Barbara)
