On Wednesday, April 23, KCSB-FM sponsors Nederlander Concerts’ presentation of the English rock band, Spiritualized, which bring their Acoustic Mainlines tour to the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara. This is one of the smallest theatres that the band will play this year. The tour will feature the music of Spiritualized, Spaceman 3 and others, and a string section and gospel singers will also accompany the band. Spiritualized will release a new 18-track album, Songs in A&E in the UK on May 19th, and is also slated to perform at the 2008 Coachella Music & Art Festival.
Formed from the ashes of trance-rockers Spaceman 3, singer/guitarist Jason Pierce’s group Spiritualized has not broken away from his prior band’s trademark hypnotic minimalism. Drawing on the continued influence of the Velvet Underground, La Monte Young and Steve Reich, Spiritualized stake out a common ground between minimalism and lush symphonics.
This is an all-ages event. The Lobero Theatre is at 33 East Canon Perdido in Santa Barbara. Showtime is 9pm. Tickets are on sale now: available online, at the UCSB Associated Students Ticket Office (805.893.2064), and at the Lobero Theatre Box Office.
This Monday morning, April 21, 2008, from 9-10am PT, “The Freak Power Ticket” will air an interview conducted this past Sunday (4/20) by host Ted Coe with Spiritualized frontman Jason Pierce (aka “J. Spaceman”). KCSB will also be giving away Spiritualized passes to listeners. So be sure to tune into to hear the interview & for your chance at Acoustic Mainlines passes to the Lobero Theater!
