On Wednesday, October 17th, 2007, KCSB 91.9 FM is proud to act as a sponsor of Jacalyn Kane Productions’ presentation of the “Solid Blues” tour, which for the first time combines the talents of Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite, North Mississippi Allstars and Joe Krown. Showtime is 730pm, at the Marjorie Luke Theatre.
One of the lead vocalists with the groundbreaking gospel group The Staple Singers (“Respect Yourself” and “I’ll Take You There”) and a solo artist, Mavis Staples has become an inspirational force in modern popular culture and music. Charlie Musselwhite has been called “The world’s greatest living blues harmonica player” by the New York Press. Amongst other honors, Charlie is an eight-time Grammy-nominee and a Lifetime Achievement Award winner from The Monterey Blues Festival. North Mississippi Allstars won three Grammy nominations for Best Contemporary Blues Album between 2001-05. The group recently recorded the soundtrack (along with Charlie Musselwhite) for the movie, Black Snake Moan. Piano and Hammond B-3 player, Joe Krown is a favorite of New Orleans and has won numerous awards there for his recordings.
The Marjorie Luke Theater is at 721 E. Cota Street. For more information, contact (805) 560-7602 or go to kaneproductions.com.
