On Monday, October 15, KCSB 91.9 FM presents “An Evening with ‘Alternative Radio’ Producer and Author David Barsamian,” starting at 730pm at the UCSB MultiCultural Center Lounge. This event is free and open to the public. Barsamian will discuss the topics covered in his new book, Targeting Iran (City Lights Books’ Open Series), which features interviews with 3 experts on Iran and U.S. foreign policy, Noam Chomsky, Ervand Abrahamian, and Nahid Mozaffari.
With Iran and the United States on a collision course, Targeting Iran explores such matters as the 1953 CIA coup and the rise of the Islamic regime; Iran’s internal dynamics and competing forces; relations with Iraq and Afghanistan; and the consequences of U.S. policy.
David Barsamian is the award-winning director of “Alternative Radio,” a weekly, independent public-affairs program. With nearly 30 years in the medium, his interviews and articles appear regularly in “The Progressive” and “Z Magazine.” Other Barsamian titles include works with Tariq Ali, Arundhati Roy, and Howard Zinn. Named a “Top Ten Media Hero” by the Institute of Alternative Journalism, and winner of the ACLU’s Upton Sinclair Award for independent journalism, Barsamian speaks around the globe on U.S. foreign policy, the media, propaganda, and corporate power.
This event will be followed by a Q&A session and a book and CD signing. For more information, call (805) 893-3757.
Co-sponsored by the MultiCultural Center at UC Santa Barbara.
