Verizon Wireless service is down in the Santa Barbara area and not expected to return for 24 hours, according to a Verizon spokesperson. County emergency operations personnel stated that there was no fire damage to Verizon’s equipment or sites because there are no Verizon cell sites in the fire area. However, the county spokesperson indicated that was possible that smoke and ash from the Zaca Fire might be impacting Verizon’s signal range and reception.
Also, Eric Newhouse of the Great Falls Tribune in Great Falls, Montana, is reporting that the high demand for fire information on the national forest service website, InciWeb, has overloaded the servers hosting the site.
KCSB will have more updates on the Zaca Fire throughout the day.
