KCSB & Buffalo Records Host Stage at Ventura’s Harvest ArtWalk, Oct. 18th

KCSB-FM and Buffalo Records in Ventura are joining forces to host free musical performances at the California Street Stage during the City of Ventura’s Harvest ArtWalk Weekend 2008, on Saturday, October 18th, from 1-10pm.

The KCSB/Buffalo Records stage will feature:
2-240pm: Hell-Kite (Arizona-based indie-folk artist)
3-340pm: The Holdfast Rifle Company (Santa Barbara honkytonkers)
4-440pm: The Limbz (Santa Barbara conscious hip hop)
6-650pm: Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros guitarist from Camarillo–rock music)
730-810pm: Da Bears (San Diego indie rockers)
830-930pm: Monkey Wagon (rock/funk/soul duo from Los Angeles)

KCSB DJs will be spinning between the sets.

The California Street Stage at the City of Ventura’s Harvest ArtWalk Weekend 2008 is located at the corner of Santa Clara and California Streets. Buffalo Records follows up with more on October 19th, from noon-4pm, sponsored by KCSB (including childrens music by the day’s opener, Janine [noon], the acoustic duo See What Happens When You Kiss a Frog, from Port Hueneme [130pm], and the psychedelic folk of The Mars Hall Band [230pm], from Venice, California).

ArtWalk is a free self-guided walking tour of 200 artists at over 80 locations in Ventura’s Downtown Cultural District. More information is available at the Ventura Artwalk website (see above). The Ventura Harvest ArtWalk is a presentation of the City of Ventura Cultural Affairs Division and is proudly sponsored by KCSB 91.9 FM in Santa Barbara.

sbdiy is a community building project created to promote local, free, all-age shows as of yet. In the future, it’s goal is to promote other events related to arts, films, food, and bikes.

November 7th at 8 PM in the BIKO GARAGE (6612 Sueno Rd., Isla Vista CA). all the bands start with the letter P! ha.
1. Pizza!. this band is amazing. played a show with them in LA once.
2. THE POM POMS: they are local and really good.
3. and maybe another local to play a few songs. maybe PHYSICAL FITNESS???

November 12th at 7:30 PM in the BIKO GARAGE (6612 Sueno Rd., Isla Vista CA). this will be a really big one. seriously. and it will be cool cause it’s not just rock. cool electronic stuff and acoustic stuff.
1. LUCKY DRAGONS. laptop electronic stuff. really really good. josh i think you’ll dig it. a lot of people will be excited about them.
2. PIT ER PAT. really cool experimental rock type stuff. played with them once in san luis obispo. really fun show.
3. HECUBA. don’t know a lot about this band but it sounds really good. like lucky dragons, also part of the smell scene in LA. people will surely dig this.
4. DEAD WESTERN. he’s from sacramento. and is really amazing. pretty weird psychedelic acoustic stuff. people will be sort of entranced by it. cause he has a weird singing voice heh.

1.NORMANDIE WILSON. she’s pretty cool. used to play in this 10ish piece pop orchestra called Red Pony Clock. and this is her solo stuff. lo-fi soul/pop type stuff. heh.

2. OHIOAN. he’s from portland and has this really awesome band with members of other really awesome bands. (ex: Old Time Relijun, Shaky Hands, Ghost to Falco, Watery Graves of Portland, etc). i think he’ll be playing solo acoustic this time around. but it should be really good.

3. JEAN-LUC FRAIKIN. local folky country-esque music.)

Old Time Fiddlers’ Convention and Festival

On Sunday, October 5th from 10:00 AM ’til 5:00 PM, the Santa Barbara Sunrise Rotary Club presents the 37th Annual Old Time Fiddlers’ Convention and Festival at the Stow House, 304 N. Los Carneros Road, in Goleta. The festival will include a competition stage, a showcase stage, jam sessions and “good grub!”

The Brothers Barton will be featured during this day of fun and fund raising for local and international charitable projects. KCSB Sponsors The Hives, Eagles of Death Metal, & The Willowz @ The Majestic Ventura Theater

On Monday, September 22, Ventura Theater will present The Hives, live in concert with Eagles of Death Metal and The Willowz.

The Hives are a Swedish garage-rock band that first rose to prominence in the early 2000s as a leading group of the garage rock revival, playing garage punk. Their breakthrough came with the release of the “best-of” compilation Your New Favourite Band, featuring their most commercially successful song “Hate to Say I Told You So”. The Hives are known for their “hilarious self-glorification,” and performances in matching suits that change with each album, but are always black and white.

KCSB Sponsors 2 Ventura Theater Concerts: They Might Be Giants (10/2) & Jorma Kaukonen (10/3)

The first week in October, KCSB-FM sponsors 2 concerts at the Majestic Ventura Theater: college-radio mainstays, They Might Be Giants (Tuesday, October 2nd) and former Jefferson Airplane & Hot Tuna member Jorma Kaukonen (Wednesday, October 3rd).

Fronted by “the two Johns,” Linnell and Flansburgh, the prolific alternative-rock group They Might Be Giants is touring in support of its summer 2007 Idlewild/Zoe Records release, “The Else.” Opening for Tuesday night’s headliners is the Irish indie-pop/electronic group, Oppenheimer.

On Wednesday, Jorma Kaukonen will be showcasing music on his spring Red House Records release, “Stars in My Crown,” an acoustic-oriented record on the heels of his Grammy-nominated 2002 album, “Blue Country Heart.” Kaukonen will also be sure to revisit his legendary Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna songs, as well.
