EBBA's goal is to make such broadside ballads fully accessible as texts, art, music, and cultural records of the period. About 8,000-10,000 English broadside ballads of the entire seventeenth-century survive. To capture the genre’s arch of development, EBBA seeks to archive all these printed ballads—with priority given to the black-letter ornamental broadside of the genre’s heyday—as well as all surviving sixteenth-century broadside ballads (about 250) and a representative sampling of broadside ballads of the early eighteenth century.Dr. Fumerton was the recipient of the 2009 BSECS Digital Eighteenth Century Prize, awarded by the British Society for Eighteenth Century Studies in collaboration with JISC Collections, Gale Cengage Learning, Adam Matthews Digital, and Proquest.

“Katrina was five years ago and its effects and meanings are being explored in many ways. And now the gulf oil catastrophe adds new traumas and revelations. Music is at the center of all the reflection and expression about the fate of the region, of hope, despair and changing consciousness. So on this week’s show we sample that music from and about New Orleans, especially in the aftermaths.

Pete Seeger has a new song that pertains to all this and that is viral on the web. We’ll play it on the radio. You can see it on youtube.”

Update: On Wednesday, September 8th, Phil Levasseur, host of “Art of Peace” (Wednesdays 7-8pm), interviews Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary during this week’s edition of his public affairs program.

On Friday, September 10th, Lobero Live presents Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey of the iconic folk trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, in concert starting at 8pm at the Lobero Theatre.

Since 1962, Peter, Paul and Mary led the folk revolution with hits such as “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Leavin’ on a Jet Plane,” and “If I Had a Hammer.” Emerging as the nation was recovering from the McCarthy era and as the civil rights movement was taking shape, the trio’s career flowered for 45 years, until Mary Travers lost her long battle with cancer. Now, Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey carry on the group’s mission, activism, humanity, and joy.

Following their concert, a backstage reception in the Lobero courtyard will honor Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey, recipients of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s Distinguished Peace Leadership Award. Special tickets for these combined events can be purchased online at wagingpeace.org.

Concert tickets for Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey are available at the Lobero Box Office at 33 E.
