KCSB-FM’s 2011 50th Anniversary Commemorative T-Shirt is now available when you donate a minimum pledge amount — $25 for students, $50 for non-students — during our 2011 Fund Drive (call either 805-893-2424 or 893-KCSB). The shirt is a burgundy “unisex” cut for men — Canvas Brand — or a Bella Brand cut for women, on 100% combed ring-spun cotton, single baby-jersey knit, largely made in the USA.

Created by local artist Earl Arnold of Table Salt Screen Printing, the front illustration features a steampunk gentleman-bicyclist who exemplifies (and broadcasts) KCSB’s Golden Anniversary slogan, “50 Years of People Powered Radio.” The design heralds this celebration of KCSB’s half-century of accomplishments, with a circus font and gilt ink!

In view of Cathy Murillo’s decision to run for Santa Barbara City Council, she has been relieved of all responsibility for and access to KCSB News gathering and production beginning in March 2011 and continuing indefinitely. She has been reassigned to non-media special projects for Associated Students. Associate News Director, Stefany Viesca along with former Associate News Directors Jordan Katz and Daniel Alvarenga have assumed responsibility for the News Department and should be contacted at 805 893 2426 or via email at news@kcsb.org regarding any news events.

Charles Lloyd New Quartet will appear at the Lobero Theatre on Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 8pm. On Wednesday, September 22nd at 1030am, Living Jazz Legend Mr. Lloyd will be interviewed by Stanley Naftaly, host of “Jazz Straight Ahead.”

Says Naftaly: “Charles Lloyd, who continues to grow and mature as a musician, has reached the stage of his life and career where the term master is appropriate. His latest release, ‘Mirror,’ is a statement of seamless beauty that is driven by emotional and musical rapport.”

Lloyd is a renowned musician based out of Santa Barbara. KCSB-FM is a media supporter of the Jazz at the Lobero series.

UCSB Associated Students creates A.S. Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund

The UCSB Associated Students Legislative Council has set up an Associated Students Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund, to which anyone and everyone can donate either in person, by mail, or online. To donate in person, please go to the AS Cashiers office, located outside the Multi-cultural Center. To donate by mail please send a check, made payable to Associated Students, to 2537 University Center, Santa Barbara, CA 93116. You can also donate via PayPal at http://www.as.ucsb.edu.

Associated Students have pledged to match all donations up to a total of $25,000 made by January 31, 2010.

Live Broadcast 10/22: UC Commission on the Future @ UCSB’s Campbell Hall, 2p-4:20p

On October 22nd, KCSB-FM will be broadcasting the UC Commission on the Future’s forum being held at UCSB’s Campbell Hall. The purpose of this forum is to provide the UCSB campus with information of the Commission’s five working groups. In addition, the Commission will have an open public comment period so that the UCSB campus community can give the Commission feedback as to the impact experienced by UCSB during this recent budget crisis.

KCSB’s 2008-09 Fund Drive Grand Prize drawing has resumed. Santa Barbara International Film Festival Passes were given away on the afternoon of Friday, January 16th, as an early prize for those who already qualified for entry by that date (the SBIFF ran from Jan. 22-Feb. 1).

During the 2008-2009 KCSB Annual Fund Drive, each $100 pledged by February 9th (by telephone or online) will automatically be entered in a drawing for the following items. Some restrictions may apply.

They will be selected in the following order.

A DIRECTV Satellite Television Package (worth up to $875).

UPDATE (10:08PM): Via The Independent: the county is still reporting the following areas as being under mandatory evacuation: Sycamore Canyon and Coyote have been evacuated, Hot Springs Road to Mission Canyon Rad north of 192, Alameda Padre Serra (APS) between Sycamore Canyon and Mission Canyon Road.

The evacuees should go to San Marcos High School at 4750 Hollister Avenue in Goleta.

UPDATE (8:17PM): Mandatory Evacuation Area: Area North of the 192 from Gilbralter Road East to Hot Springs Road

A Red Cross Shelter has been set up at San Marcos High School.

Regarding Animal Evacuations: Call 681-4332 Large Animals can be taken to Gate C at Earl Warren. Small animals 5399 Over Pass Road (off of Patterson) in Goleta.

UPDATE (7:50PM): The fire is on Cold Springs Road. Chris Meagher of The Independent has reported on KCSB-FM that structures in the area have burned, and that parts of Westmont College are on fire. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is requesting that people DO NOT venture into the area, as traffic leaving Montecito and Alameda Padre Serra is very heavy.

KCSB has received unconfirmed reports that the fire in Sycamore Canyon is 3 to 5 acres and is very close to Westmont College. The Independent is reporting that people living north of Mountain Road or Cold Spring should evacuate now.

KCSB will broadcast additional information as soon as we have it.
