Sonny Smith Band In-Studio Performance to Be Broadcast on “Rocket Garden Holiday” (June 27th)

Sonny SmithToday between 11am-12, on “Rocket Garden Holiday” (which airs Fridays from 10am-noon), host Chris Vestuto will air an in-studio performance that he recorded on June 6th with the musician and multimedia storyteller, Sonny Smith. A San Francisco native, Smith started playing blues piano during his teens in Colorado in the late 1980s. Over the course of his artistic career (which has included ventures in play- and screen-writing, and short stories), the critically-acclaimed Smith has worked with a panoply of celebrated musicians, including Neko Case (for whom he’s opened on tour), Jolie Holland, Mark Eitzel (of American Music Club), Miranda July, and members of Wilco, Vetiver, Mekons, and the bands of David Byrne and Beth Orton. Sonny Smith’s band, Sonny and the Sunsets, made a Saturday morning stop at KCSB during their recent west-coast tour.

“Culture of Protest” Celebrates 26th Anniversary Show Tonight (Thurs., 6/26th, 6-7pm)

This week’s anniversary show will be a bouquet of songs, old and new, that sing about the power of song itself. KCSB & Beehouse Records Present Beehouse Fest! on Sat., June 21st, at Muddy Waters Café + Franklin for Short Interview

Beehouse Fest Flier 2On Saturday June 21st, Muddy Waters will host the Beehouse Fest!, a showcase of South Coast artists affiliated with the Beehouse Records label, including The Spires, Franklin For Short, The Parson Redheads, Le Petit Protest, Landy, Deepak Super, Watercolor Paintings, Catwalk, and maybe more!

KCSB & Club Mercy Present Extra Golden & oso at Muddy Waters, Thurs., June 19th

Extra GoldenOn Thursday, June 19th, KCSB 91.9 FM, Arthur Magazine, and Club Mercy presents Thrill Jockey Records’ artists Extra Golden, live at Muddy Waters Café, with special guests, oso.

Featuring musicians from Nairobi and Pennsylvania (including Alex Minoff of Weird War), Extra Golden blends Kenyan benga music with a psychedelicized indie rock. At the same event, Santa Barbara’s oso will be celebrating the release of its new CD, “kuno esama.” Showtime is 9pm. Muddy Waters Café is at 508 East Haley Street in downtown Santa Barbara.
