The following is an announcement from Santa Barbara County Fire officials, dated Tuesday, August 14th, 2007:
People looking north from the Santa Barbara area will see a huge, towering column of smoke. This column results from active burning on the Zaca Fire. The actively burning area is in the Judell and Logan canyon areas, which are located approximately 25 miles away from the south coast urban area. The fire is burning away from the South Coast and represents no threat to these communities. Residents can expect to see more of these columns as the interior of this fire continues to burn for the next week or more.
KCSB News recorded the August 12 press conference hosted by Zaca Fire officials and the County of Santa Barbara. Speakers describe fire-fighting strategies. Back-burning operations are expected to be launched the evening of August 13. Fire authorities are holding press briefings daily at 12:30 p.m. Stay tuned to KCSB for regular updates. Listen to Sunday’s press conference. Thanks to Elizabeth Robinson and Zak Koretz for help in production.
